Scared of Math?
Ask any child which subject does he/she fear the most? And the reply would come within a second- Math. Children, most of them, hate Math. In fact, I have seen may groups of popular social networking websites named as “Hate Math”, “Math S…..” (can’t use that word here!) and so on.
The distaste for Math among children is universal. However, there is a simple solution to making Math an interesting subject for children. Any guesses? Here is a hint- Children love to play.
Children learn through playing too. Games and quizzes can make Math more interesting for children. Online math tutoring can be fun for tutors as well as children this way. Ask a child what’s 2 + 2, and he might shy away. But ask him this “if you have one chocolate and I give you three more, how many would you have in total?” and he is sure to answer you correctly.
In most of my conversations with parents and experts in online tutoring, I talk a lot about ‘Fun with Math’, ‘Riddles’, ‘Games’ etc. And I have demonstrated these techniques to improve the child’s performance. What this essentially means is that we have created such a bad picture of Math that children find it difficult to believe that Math cane be fun too.
Online Tutoring, especially online math lessons, should include games and puzzles that stimulate the brains of children and help them develop interest in the subject being taught. I have seen drastic improvements when children are not burdened with boring formulas and concepts, and are taught inan interesting fashion.
